Assemblywoman Luz Rivas, D-Arleta, presented a $5 million dollar check in state funding to the Boys and Girl Club of San Fernando Valley on Wednesday, Sept. 29, in Pacoima.

Officials said the funding will go toward maintenance and safety upgrades, closing the digital divide, modernizing afterschool science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities, increasing staffing capacity and providing afterschool meals to ensure children and teens have a safe place to play and learn.

“Since 1966, the Boys and Girls Club has been a beacon of light for youth in the northeast San Fernando Valley. They have consistently provided essential recreational and social services for children and their families in our community,” said  Rivas. “ The passion and dedication of their staff does not go unnoticed.  ”

“On behalf of the board of directors, we appreciate Assemblywoman Rivas’ confidence in the Boys and Girls Club to be part of total community solutions,” stated Severyn Aszkenazy, Board Chair of the Boys and Girls Club of San Fernando Valley.
