Reality TV star and dentist Dr. Heavenly Kimes has shifted her political sights, filing to run for Georgia’s 13th Congressional District instead of the state legislature. The Married to Medicine personality says her larger platform positions her to challenge longtime Democratic Congressman David Scott, who has held the seat since 2003 and faces growing scrutiny over his age. Kimes joins a crowded field of contenders that includes a state senator, a state representative, and a former school board chair. Kimes is centering her campaign on protecting programs like WIC, warning that “funding could run out in one to two weeks unless Congress acts.” Drawing from personal experience, she said, “When I had my first baby, I was on WIC and food stamps. Those programs aren’t handouts—they’re lifelines.”
