UCLA update: The Bruins lost 48-45 to USC on Saturday in a crosstown showdown that lived up to its billing, giving them their first losing streak of the season and dropping them from contention for the Pac-12 title. … UCLA allowed 648 yards of total offense to USC, with quarterback Caleb Williams throwing for a season-high 470 yards. … Bruins’ quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson was 23 of 38 passing for 309 yards, but he threw three interceptions and also had a fumble. … A win against Cal would give the Bruins their first nine-win season under Chip Kelly.
Cal update: The Bears beat Stanford 27-20 on Saturday, coming back after trailing 17-6 in the fourth quarter. Cal took the lead in the fourth on a 37-yard scoop and score by Jackson Sirmon. … Quarterback Jack Plummer was 23 for 43 for 280 yards passing in the win, and freshman running back Jadyn Ott had 18 carries for 97 yards, recording his eighth rushing touchdown of the season. … The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Bears, who fired offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and offensive line coach Angus McClure after losing to Oregon the prior week.
