As winds calm, temperatures will cool across Southern California this weekend

The Santa Ana winds that blasted Southern California on Thanksgiving Day let up on Friday morning, canceling red flag wind warnings and giving way to cooler temperatures for the weekend, forecasters said.

Dry, cool weather consistent with seasonal norms is expected, with a slight chance of Monday evening showers in the Inland Empire and Orange Country.

Coastal spots in Orange County and Los Angeles are expected to be in the mid to upper 60s, while inland Orange County, the San Fernando Valley and the Inland Empire will have slightly warmer highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. The San Bernardino County and Riverside County mountains could see highs in the low 50s to mid-60s depending on elevation.

“Temperatures could see a small spike Wednesday, but there will be another cooldown through the first weekend of December,” National Weather Service meteorologist Casey Oswant said.

The slight chance of rain Monday evening into Tuesday morning is not anticipated to create much of an impact.

“We’re not expecting rainfall to accumulate and most of it will fall in the San Bernardino County and Riverside County mountains,” Oswant said. Totals across the region, including Los Angeles County, are expected to be under a tenth of an inch.

The San Gabriel Mountains could see an increase in winds, up to 50 mph, near the peaks on Monday evening.

Expected high temperatures for Saturday, according to the National Weather Service:

Downtown LA: 71

Fullerton: 72

Long Beach: 68

Mission Viejo: 70

Redlands: 71

Riverside: 72

San Bernardino: 72

Torrance: 69

Van Nuys: 74

Whittier: 71
