Elana Meyers Taylor reached the pinnacle of her decorated career this week, capturing gold in women’s monobob at the Milan–Cortina Winter Games. The U.S. bobsledder and mother of two, whose career was once jeopardized by concussions, rallied in the fourth and final heat to earn her sixth career Olympic medal and long-awaited moment atop the podium. At 41, Meyers Taylor became the oldest American woman to win a gold medal at a Winter Olympics and cemented her status as the most decorated Black athlete in Winter Games history. The gold also tied her with Bonnie Blair for the most Olympic medals by a U.S. woman in Winter Olympic competition.
