Campbell Hall boys basketball coach Steve Tolbert stepped down Thursday from the position he held for five years, and there could be more big news coming from the school.

Tolbert’s first year at the helm was the 2018-19 season and he finished with an overall record of 57-54, including a 14-13 mark this season.

Tolbert, a 2005 graduate of Campbell Hall, had a meeting with the team Thursday afternoon and shared the news with the players.

“I’m stepping down to focus on other goals I have for myself,” Tolbert said. “I am forever grateful for the opportunity to lead the program at my alma mater. I will always be a Viking and I’m excited about what the future holds.”

The coaching change might be followed by more big news coming out of the program.

Sierra Canyon sophomore Bryce James, the youngest son of LeBron James, might be leaving Sierra Canyon and transfering to Campbell Hall.

Multiple sources have said the move is a “done deal” and Bryce James’ school application for transfer has been submitted. James and his family have already toured the school. The family’s youngest child attends the elementary school.

Bryce James could be accompanied by other players who also transfer to Campbell Hall.

The James family donated to Campbell Hall’s ‘CH: NEXT’ campaign, which has dedicated a new building to be named “Savanna and LeBron James Athletic Administration Wing” in the Viking Center, which is described as a “dynamic space that will function as the home away from home for coaches and student-athletes alike. Covering over 2,000 square feet, the new James Wing will include offices for coaches and administrators, film and meeting rooms, a student-athletes’ lounge, and coaches’ lounge.”

The Vikings are expected to return guards and current juniors Aaron Powell, Aliaun Iscandari and Tanner Jones along with underclassmen Isaiah Johnson and Johnnie Newt.
