INGLEWOOD — The Chargers lost cornerback J.C. Jackson, one of their prized offseason acquisitions, to a right knee injury near the end of the first half of their 37-23 loss Sunday to the Seattle Seahawks. Jackson was hurt while defending a 23-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith to Marquise Goodwin.

Jackson didn’t appear to be hit on the play, but simply fell to the SoFi Stadium turf as he ran stride for stride with Goodwin down the left sideline with 1:40 left in the opening half. Goodwin leaped for Smith’s pass and caught it just as Jackson reached for his right leg in obvious pain.

An air cast was placed on Jackson’s leg and he was carted off the field and driven directly to the Chargers’ locker room. Michael Davis replaced Jackson, who missed two games earlier this season after undergoing minor ankle surgery Aug. 23.

The Chargers signed Jackson to a five-year, $82.5-million free-agent contract during the offseason in order to bolster their defense this season. He had an NFL-leading 25 interceptions over his first four seasons in the league, all with the New England Patriots. He was a first-time Pro Bowl selection last season.

Chargers’ special teams actually special in victory over Broncos

The Seahawks built a 24-14 lead by halftime after leading 17-0 by the end of the first quarter. It was the third consecutive game the Chargers had trailed by double digits in the first quarter, following a 10-0 deficit to the Denver Broncos last Monday night and a 14-0 deficit Oct. 9 to the Cleveland Browns.

The Chargers rallied to beat the Broncos and the Browns. They couldn’t do the same against Seattle.

Austin Ekeler’s seven-yard touchdown run and Justin Herbert’s 13-yard TD pass play to Mike Williams brought the Chargers within 17-14 with 9:37 left in the first half, but their momentum and their rally ended soon enough. Goodwin’s TD pass from Smith made it 24-14.

Jason Myers kicked field goals of 34 and 50 yards in the second half, and rookie running back Kenneth Walker III ran for a game-clinching 74-yard touchdown that gave the Seahawks a 37-16 lead with 6:56 left in the game. The Chargers managed a safety when Walker was tackled in the end zone.

Walker ran for a career-best 168 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

Ekeler caught a one-yard scoring pass from Herbert to account for the final score.
