Chipotle Mexican Grill puts Mystery Boxes on sale

Chipotle Mexican Grill will begin selling an item called Mystery Boxes on Thursday.

Boxes will come in two sizes, each containing “new and fan-favorite Chipotle Goods merchandise,” according to a news release. One of those items is Cilantro Soap, which was briefly available last December but sold out in 12 hours.

A few boxes will contain stainless steel $500 Chipotle gift cards.

The promotion will last two days, from 9 a.m. PST on Thursday, Dec. 1 to 9 a.m. PST on Saturday, Dec. 3.

A Small Burrito Box costs $30 and will contain three to five items. The news release calls it a $60 value.

A Large Burrito Box costs $50, a $100 value, and contains four to eight items.

The boxes will be wrapped in foil like the Newport Beach-based chain’s burritos.

Proceeds will go to “organizations that are making apparel and farming more sustainable.”

This promotion follows similar promotions in recent weeks, including McDonald’s “adult Happy Meal,” a box that featured a collectible toy from streetwear company Cactus Plant Flea Market. Two weeks ago Monty’s Good Burger offered an Elton John tribute box that included a pair of cardboard glasses, a placemat with games and crayons to color it.
