College Football Bowl Game live updates: Who will play in playoffs, Utah in the Rose Bowl?

Conference champions have been crowned for 2022 and the final College Football Playoff rankings will be announced Sunday (on ESPN at 9 a.m. PT). The rankings will determine which four teams will compete in the two semifinal games, the Peach Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31.

Two teams appeared to have punched their ticket to the CFP following conference victories. Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett threw a season-high four touchdown passes to lead the Bulldogs past LSU in the SEC title game. Running back Donovan Edwards led Michigan to a victory over Purdue in the Big Ten Conference title game. Edwards was named the game’s MVP after rushing for 185 yards and a touchdown.

The Wolverines lead running back Blake Corum did not play and is expected to have knee surgery. He is also considered a Heisman Trophy candidate.

The remaining teams listed among the top 25 will help determine some of the other bowl game matchups throughout the month of December. Utah is expected to play in the Rose Bowl Game after defeating USC in the Pac-12 title game on Friday and will play a Big Ten representative. With Michigan expected to be named as a playoff team, Ohio State or Penn State are likely to be named as the Big Ten representative.

After the Rose Bowl Game’s agreement with the CFP earlier this week to help expand the playoff to a 12-team format in 2024-25, this season’s game could be the last traditional matchup between Pac-12 and Big Ten conference teams.

The Trojans were among the top four teams to start the week but are expected to fall after the loss to the Utes, which may open the door for the Buckeyes to return as top four team.

The winner of the two semifinal games will play for the national championship at SoFi Stadium on Jan. 9.

This page will be updated throughout Sunday as information about bowl game matchups becomes available.
