Condolences pour in for Riverside County sheriff’s Deputy Darnell Calhoun

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department lost another deputy Friday, Jan, 13.

Deputy Darnell Calhoun was shot and killed in Lake Elsinore.

The shooting happened just after 4:30 p.m. Friday. Details were not immediately available on how Calhoun was shot or what he was investigating.

He is the second Riverside County sheriff’s deputy to be killed in the line of duty in 16 days.

On Dec. 29, Deputy Isaiah Cordero was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Jurupa Valley. His memorial service was one week ago.

An outpouring of support for Calhoun and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department came from social media late Friday.

The Los Angeles Police Department offered condolences.

“Tragic news, as we learn Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Darnell Calhoun has been killed in the line of duty today. The LAPD sends its condolences to his friends and loved ones. Rest In Peace Deputy Calhoun,” the agency tweeted late Friday.
