The Cuba Gooding trial is off. That’s good news for the 55-year old actor who was accused back in 2020 of raping a woman in a New York City hotel room in 2013. This after a reported 30 women accused the star of groping and unwanted sexual abuse”.
Cuba had maintained that sex between the two was consensual. The woman claimed that after meeting the actor, he asked her to join him at his hotel for drinks and said he had to stop at his room to change his clothes where she alleges that he subsequently raped her twice.
Attorneys representing the two parties came to a settlement agreement. A lawsuit—filed on her behalf—was seeking $6 million in damages.
Jury selection in the civil trial had been set to begin in a matter of days. Terms of the settlement reached that averted a trial were not disclosed. It means, however, that Gooding will serve no time.
In a criminal case last year, Gooding pled guilty of groping several women, but was allowed to instead plead guilty to a lesser violation after agreeing to undergo alcohol and behavioral counseling and stay out of trouble.
