Dirt bike rider, 20, dies in South LA hit-and-run crash

LOS ANGELES — A 20-year-old Los Angeles man was killed Sunday after his dirt bike collided with a car that left the scene in the Vermont Square neighborhood.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday at 54th and Cimarron streets, according to a release from the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division.

The man was riding his dirt bike eastbound on 54th Street behind a dark-colored sedan when the car’s driver made a unsafe movement that caused the dirt bike rider to crash into the rear of the car, police said. The rider was ejected from the dirt bike and struck the pavement — and the car’s driver drove away from the scene.

Paramedics took the injured rider to California Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
