Disneyland will introduce Magic Band+ wearable tech bracelets this fall

Magic Bands, wearable tech devices that have been in use at Florida’s Walt Disney World since 2013, will finally make the trip west when they arrive at the Disneyland Resort this fall, park officials announced Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The latest iteration of the devices, called Magic Band+, debuted at Walt Disney World this past summer. That version will come to Disneyland later this fall, though an official launch date has yet to be announced.

Guests will be able to use Magic Bands at the front gates to enter the park — as long as they have valid park admission and a reservation for that date — and to check in at line-skipping Lightning Lane entrances, if they have paid for that access.

Magic Bands will also provide immersive features for people viewing nighttime spectaculars such as “Fantasmic!” and “World of Color,” lighting up and vibrating in sync with the show. Visitors who are in Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land can use the devices to participate in the “Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters” interactive quest, with lights and vibrations helping them find “virtual bounties” located in the land.

More Magic Band+ features will be rolled out after the devices’ initial launch, Disney officials said. Guests will be able to personalize their Magic Bands by pairing them with a smartphone through the Disneyland app, which will enable them to select lighting colors and adjust the vibration and motion recognition settings.

Basic MagicBand+ devices retail for $19.99 while decorate versions are available for $29.99-$44.99.
