Early in-person voting in LA City Council District 6 race starts Saturday

Eligible voters in the special election to fill the District 6 seat on the Los Angeles City Council can cast or drop off ballots in person at select vote centers starting Saturday, March 25.

The special election will take place April 4, but people can cast their ballots earlier, in the race to determine a replacement for former Councilmember Nury Martinez. She resigned in disgrace in October 2022 due to her role in a leaked audio scandal.

Seven candidates are on the ballot, listed in the following order: Isaac Kim, Imelda Padilla, Rose Grigoryan, Marisa Alcaraz, Antoinette Scully, Douglas Sierra and Marco Santana.

They’re vying to represent Council District 6, which serves San Fernando Valley residents in Arleta, Lake Balboa, North Hills, North Hollywood, Panorama City, Sun Valley and Van Nuys.

What voters need to know:

– Those who are eligible to cast a ballot but haven’t yet registered to vote can conditionally register and vote at a vote center. For vote center locations, visit clerk.lacity.gov/elections.

– Those who registered to vote by Monday, March 20, should get a vote-by-mail ballot sent to their home address.

– Those voting by mail have until election day to mail their ballot back. As long as the ballot is postmarked by April 4 and received within seven days by the county registrar’s office, the ballot will be counted.

– Voters can also drop off their ballots at any Ballot Drop Box located in Council District 6 through April 4, election day.

– Voters can check their registration status by visiting the county registrar’s Voter Registration Verification webpage.
