Funeral services set for respected Pasadena entrepreneur Bill Galloway

Funeral services have been announced for Bill Galloway, the entrepreneur who left a legacy of philanthropy and service from Pasadena to D.C.

Galloway, 81, died March 1.

A viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Woods-Valentine Mortuary, 1455 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena.

A “Homegoing Service” will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Lake Avenue Congregational Church, 393 N. Lake Ave., in Pasadena. (Organizers caution that no electronic devices are allowed in the church. That includes cellphones, cameras and tablets.)

Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 2400 N. Fair Oaks Ave., and a repast will be at 2 p.m. at the Valley Hunt Club, 520 S. Orange Grove Blvd.

Galloway was active in community organizations throughout his life, serving on the Pasadena City College Foundation advisory board, the Pasadena Development Corporation, the Pasadena Museum of California Art.

In 2015, he was elected to the Smithsonian National Board after he and his wife were founding contributors to the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the National Mall in Washington D.C.

In 2006, the Pasadena Museum of History Contemporary honored the Galloways as Contemporary History Makers, recognizing their cultural contributions to the community.

The Pasadena City Council adjourned their March 6 meeting in Galloway’s memory.

“I can only say to those of you that didn’t know Bill Galloway that Pasadena has truly lost a local champion and a very strong and dependable pillar of this community,” Mayor Victor Gordo said at the meeting.
