Harry Styles postpones dates of Kia Forum residency due to illness

Harry Styles has basically been living at Kia Forum in Inglewood since Oct. 16, turning the iconic venue into Harry’s House with his record-setting, sold-out 15-evening residency. He even put on a special show — dubbed Harryween, with elaborate costumes and all — for his loyal fans on Oct. 31.

Seems the 28-year-old singer-songwriter, actor and former One Direction member may have overdone it after dressing up like John Travolta’s Danny Zuko and performing hits from “Grease” for fans on Halloween night. Following his show on Nov. 2, Styles announced he was ill and would need to postpone his show on Nov. 4, which was swiftly rescheduled to Nov. 6.

However, as fans dressed up in their best outfits and had already hit the road or showed up to the venue for Styles’ show on Nov. 5, it was canceled as he revealed he had the flu.

“Towards the end of the show on Wednesday I started feeling ill and I’ve been in bed with the flu ever since,” he wrote in a story on his official Instagram page on Saturday evening. “I’ve been doing everything I can to be able to sing tonight, but I’m leaving the doctor now and I’m devastated that it’s just not possible. Until very recently I haven’t had to postpone a show due to illness in the 12 years I’ve been touring. I’m so sorry to do it, and if there was anyway I could do the show I would.

“I’m sorry this news is coming so close to show time, but it was my sincerest hope to be able to play for you tonight,” he continued, acknowledging that there were hordes of fans camped out at the venue all day, buying up his merchandise, singing his songs and posting photos and tagging him on social media sites. “I know several of you planned trips to LA to see the show, and it means the absolute world to me.”

He went on to say that the shows for Nov. 5-7 had been postponed until Jan. 26-27 and 29 and that the rest of his residency, which includes shows Nov. 9, 11-12 and 14-15 would go on as planned.

“I can’t wait to see you then and I’m so sorry. All my love – H.”

Styles isn’t the only artist who has had to cancel a major concert event in Southern California as fans were already either in the venue or well on their way. Just across the street from Kia Forum, R&B star The Weeknd abruptly exited the stage after performing just three songs during his second sold-out evening at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 3. He returned briefly to let the fans know that he had lost his voice and would be unable to continue.

“I’m going to make sure everyone is good, you’ll get your money back … but I’ll do a show real soon for you guys,” he said.

He did make good on that promise and added not one, but two new show dates. Fans attending the Sept. 3 show were either offered full refunds or a ticket to the new date on Nov. 26 and he added an additional show on Nov. 27.
