Here are food distributions, events across LA County to help celebrate Thanksgiving

Cities and organizations across Los Angeles County will host luncheons, dinners and food distributions this week for those in need of a Thanksgiving meal.

Thanksgiving is on Thursday, Nov. 24.

Here are some upcoming food distributions and other events throughout the Southland. For more events in your area, check the websites of local cities, churches and other organizations.

Azusa: The fourth annual Operation Gobble event hosted by state Sen. Susan Rubio. The first 250 families to arrive will receive canvas tote bags filled with groceries and gift cards. The drive-thru event will be at the Azusa City Library, 729 Dalton Ave., from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21. azusaca.gov.

Carson: The 14th annual Turkey Giveaway presented by Mayor Lula Davis-Holms and the Carson Citizen Cultural Arts Foundation. The first 500 people will receive a gift card as well. The event is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the South Pavilion Mall, 20700 Avalon Blvd. Bring a recent utility bill or other proof of Carson residency. bit.ly/3OaSaBn.

Compton: Unified Compton presents “A Day of Thanks” Giveaway, a food giveaway and ecumenical gathering serving 1,000 families. Compton residents only. Must show proof of residency. The event will be at City Hall, 205 Willowbrook Ave., at 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, with the ecumenical gathering and then, at noon, the food giveaway. comptoncity.org.

Long Beach: The LGBTQ Center Long Beach will have a meal distribution event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, to thank clients and community members. Meals will be distributed in the center’s back parking lot, 2017 E. Fourth St. To ensure a meal, sign up for a time slot; one per person. centerlb.org.

Long Beach: Annual Thanksgiving turkey meal hosted by City HeART for Veterans, seniors and families at the Villages at Cabrillo. From 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Resource Hub, 2291 W. Williams St. ourcityheart.org.

Long Beach: Christian Outreach in Action will host a Thanksgiving meal and blessing bags event on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 515 E. Third St. The meals will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the bags will be available from 1 to 3 p.m. Cooking and noncooking options will be available. coalongbeach.org.

Long Beach: Councilwoman Suley Saro and Hotel Association of Los Angeles will hand out Thanksgiving meals from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at California Recreation Park, 1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

Los Angeles: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles will host the “Week of Gratitude” food distribution, which will consist of hot, family-style meals from Cena Vegan and produce boxes from Support + Feed. First come, first serve. From 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at the Watts/Willowbrook Clubhouse, 1339 E. 120th St. Drive-thru only. bgcmla.org/wattswillowbrook.

Los Angeles: Thanksgiving Distribution hosted by Open Arms Food Pantry and Resource Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Leimert Park Plaza, 4395 Leimert Blvd. The center will provide 200 families with free donations, including infant care items, hygiene kits, blankets, toys, groceries and supermarket gift cards. San Pedro: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor will have a drive-thru Thanksgiving food distribution from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Port of Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club, 100 W Fifth St. Registration is required by Saturday, Nov. 19, call Alycia at 310-833-1322, ext. 200, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Torrance: Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the New Challenge Ministries Fresh Rescue Food Bank, 18801 Crenshaw Place. A chicken and bag of fixings and a pie will be given to each person/family that comes to the food bank in advance to sign up. Space is limited. torranceca.gov.
