Sunday

DOWN THE STRETCH

• Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 4 opens Friday with Forte the 8-1 individual betting favorite among the 39 individual betting interests along with the option of “All Other 3-Year-Olds” who are not listed. Pool 4, which includes $2 win and exacta wagering, will begin at 9 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. Sunday. Instant Coffee is 12-1 and Verifying is 15-1. All Other 3-Year-Olds is 2-1. None of Bob Baffert’s horses are eligible because his horses have been banned by Churchill Downs for this year’s Derby.

• Forte, Arabian Knight, Instant Coffee, Cave Rock and Newgate comprise the top five in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association 3-Year-Old rankings. Three of the five – Arabian Knight, Cave Rock and Newgate – are trained by Baffert. Rounding out the top 10 are Rocket Can, Victory Formation, Reincarnate, Blazing Sevens and Havnameltdown. Baffert has said he will keep Havnameltdown around one turn and is not pointing the son of Uncaptured to the Derby.
