TORRANCE — Inglewood’s defense held Chaminade scoreless in the second half for 23 of 24 minutes.

Chaminade quarterback Javance Johnson ran for a 19-yard touchdown with 30 seconds left and Logan Carpenter punched in a two-point conversion to tie the game at 35-35 and force overtime. But it was Inglewood’s Jamari Johnson who got the final word, punching in a short-yardage run in overtime to beat Chaminade 41-38 after a Ryon Sayeri field goal.

Inglewood (13-0) lost in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 semifinals to Alemany last year, but avenged that loss at South Torrance High Friday night, and will face Sierra Canyon in the Division 2 final next Saturday. Sierra Canyon beat Bishop Amat 29-23.

Jamari Johnson scored four touchdowns in the game, two receiving and two rushing.

The first half saw seven touchdowns and just two punts (one from each team). Inglewood stacked three stops in a row in the second half with an impressive second-half performance, holding Chaminade QB Javance Johnson to just two completions for 15 yards.

Inglewood sophomore quarterback Husan Longstreet delivered what felt like the back-breaking play with a 41-yard touchdown pass to Jamari Johnson on the first play of the fourth quarter that gave the Sentinels a 35-27 lead after scoring on its opening drive of the half.

Longstreet finished with four touchdown passes and running back Dane Reed – a transfer from Canoga Park – ran for 164 yards on 24 carries.

After Inglewood struck first in the game, Chaminade (10-2) scored two straight touchdowns in less than three minutes to take a 14-7 lead. Javance Johnson hit Kwazi Gilmer on a 28-yard connection before Logan Carpenter scored on a 7-yard run.

Javance Johnson scored back-to-back rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, the latter coming with just seconds before halftime to give Chaminade a 27-20 halftime lead. Javance finished with four touchdowns in the game, three rushing and one passing.

It was the third time the two programs faced each other in the postseason. Chaminade won opening-round games in 2009 (45-15) and 2011 (37-14).
