It’s ‘getting pretty hot’ in Southern California this week

Pack up your sweaters and break out some shorts, Southern California residents will be treated to some warm, dry weather this week that will carry through the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the 80s and 90s across much of the region starting Thursday, April 27, and continuing through Sunday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist James Brotherton.

“It’s going to be getting pretty hot this weekend,” Brotherton said. “And Saturday will likely be the hottest day,” before a slight cool down heading into next week.

After a wet winter in Southern California, the heat is moving in — at least for now.

In San Bernardino and Riverside counties, temperatures will likely reach into the high 90s, with cities including San Bernardino and Ontario feeling temperatures as high as 95 degrees on Saturday.

Meanwhile, coastline communities in Los Angeles and Orange counties won’t feel as much of the burn, with some overcast and light fog keeping temperatures in the high 60s and peaking into the mid to high 70s on Saturday.

Heading inland in Orange County, cities like Anaheim and Fullerton will also see some overcast skies but highs will still reach into the low 90s by the weekend, Brotherton said.

Similar temperatures in the high 80s and 90s will also be felt in inland Los Angeles County communities like Pasadena and Whittier.

For those heading to Indio for the Stagecoach Country Music Festival that kicks off Friday, be prepared for the heat. Triple-digit high temperatures are in the forecast Friday and topping out at 103 Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The heat will slightly subside a couple degrees across the region, making way for some potential rain on Monday and Tuesday next week.

“We’re looking at very light chance of rain,” Brotherton said. “Less than a quarter of an inch.”
