THE GAME: Prospect Jeremiah Jackson hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Angels a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday in Tempe, Ariz. It was Jackson’s first hit of the spring, snapping an 0-for-9 start.
PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander Chase Silseth gave up one run in four innings, making him the first Angels pitcher this spring to pitch that deep into a game. Silseth allowed a homer to Ryan McMahon and then nothing else. He did allow a couple of drives to the warning track, and another hit was converted into an out when the runner tried to go to second. Silseth struck out five and did not walk any. He has nine strikeouts and one walk in five innings this spring, and he’s allowed two runs. Silseth is competing primarily with Tucker Davidson and Griffin Canning for the Angels’ No. 6 starter job. … Right-hander Austin Warren pitched his fourth scoreless inning in four outings this spring. Warren was in line for a prominent role in the Angels’ bullpen last season, but he struggled in 2022 and was removed from the 40-man roster. … Right-hander Justin Garza gave up one run, a towering homer by Elehuris Montero. … The Rockies scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning against left-hander Jhonathan Diaz. The run was unearned because it scored on an error by left fielder Jared Oliva.
HITTING REPORT: Hunter Renfroe yanked a double down the right field line. Renfroe is 4 for 13 this spring. … The Angels produced two runs in the fourth inning on a Logan O’Hoppe walk and then consecutive singles by Max Stassi, Mickey Moniak and Jordyn Adams. Moniak and Adams each stole bases in the inning. … Moniak had two singles, improving to 5 for 17 this spring. … O’Hoppe also had a single, improving to 3 for 12 this spring. … Jared Walsh drew two walks, including one in which he was credited with an extra ball because of a timer violation on the pitcher. Walsh is 3 for 13 with four walks this spring.
DEFENSE REPORT: Adams fielded a hit down the left field line and threw to second in time to nail Michael Toglia trying to stretch his hit into a double. Adams also had a ball tick off the end of his outstretched glove. … Third baseman Michael Stefanic backhanded a ball and got the out at first. Stefanic has played more third than second this spring, after playing exclusively at second in the majors last season. … Jackson, the second baseman, ranged to his left, then spun and threw to first. … Right fielder Luis Barrera raced into foul territory to make a running catch.
