Jonathan Majors Sentenced to One-Year Probation, Avoids Jail Time

Jonathan Majors received a sentence of probation and a requirement to complete a yearlong counseling program without jail time for his assault on an ex-girlfriend, marking a significant chapter in a case that significantly impacted his once-accelerating career. The ex-star of Marvel’s franchise, who might have faced a year in prison post his misdemeanor assault conviction by a jury in Manhattan in December, will instead be on probation, pay a $250 fine, and partake in a 52-week counseling program sanctioned by the probation department of Los Angeles County.

“As he eagerly anticipates closing this chapter, he looks forward to redirecting his time and energy fully toward his family and his art,” Majors’ lawyers said in a statement.

Any arrest during his probation could lead to a year in jail, and he is barred from owning or applying for a firearm, in line with standard domestic violence case procedures.

The court also mandated a full order of protection for his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, and ordered Majors to provide a DNA sample.

An emotional Jabbari told the court, “He is not sorry. He has not accepted responsibility. He will do this again. He will hurt other women. This is a man who believes he is above the law.”

After his conviction, Marvel Studios immediately severed ties with Majors, who had been cast as the villain Kang the Conqueror, a pivotal character in the studio’s future projects. The charges originated from a March 2023 incident, where Jabbari accused Majors of physical assault. Majors countered, claiming self-defense from an aggressive altercation incited by Jabbari.

The jury convicted him of assault and harassment but acquitted him of other charges. Following an unsuccessful bid to dismiss the conviction, Majors, whose legal challenges persist amid a civil suit from Jabbari alleging abuse dating back to their relationship from 2021 to 2023, has faced a career downturn, including his dismissal by Marvel, raising questions about the future portrayal of his character and the studio’s direction amidst recent setbacks.
