Kent State transfer QB Collin Schlee commits to UCLA football

Kent State transfer Collin Schlee has committed to UCLA coach Chip Kelly and the Bruins, adding depth to the quarterback position for the 2023 season.

Schlee is rated as a four-star quarterback and was listed as the No. 19 overall prospect in the transfer portal by 247sports at the time of his commitment.

The 6-foot-3, 213-pound quarterback spent four years under Coach Sean Lewis at Kent State. He comes to UCLA with two years of eligibility remaining.

Schlee completed 157 of 266 passes for 2,109 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2022. He did have five interceptions.

He is the second Kent State player Kelly has received a commitment from the transfer portal in recent years. Defensive back Qwuantrezz Knight joined the Bruins in 2020 and became a key defender and leader for two seasons at UCLA.

Schlee is expected to compete for the starting job and could indicate that Clemson transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who reportedly took an unofficial visit this week, will not be coming to UCLA.

It remains unclear where Dante Moore stands with the Bruins.

Moore, listed at 6-foot-2.5, 210 pounds, is the third overall prospect (5-stars) in the nation for the class of 2023, according to 247sports.

When Moore took an official visit to UCLA last weekend, members of the fan base rallied on social media to show support toward Moore and tried to help persuade him to flip his Oregon commitment and consider UCLA.

Three-star quarterback Luke Duncan of Miramonte High is committed to the Bruins’ 2023 class.

Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson has played as the primary quarterback at UCLA since he and Kelly arrived ahead of the 2018 season.
