LA County Set to Reopen Rent Relief Program Applications

The Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) has officially announced the launch of the second round of the Los Angeles County Rent Relief Program (LARRP), following the initiative’s initial success.

The application window is scheduled to open at 9:00 AM PST on Monday, May 20, 2024, and close on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 4:59 PM PST. Applicants can access the eligibility criteria, registration information, and the application at the program’s website.

Multilingual webinars and technical assistance for the application will be made available daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM PST once the application period commences. Participants from the first round are advised to complete any outstanding requirements and seek support from the Rent Relief Customer Call Center at (877) 849-0770 to facilitate processing and funding distribution.

A critical element of the LARRP’s application review process will be its emphasis on prioritizing vulnerable renters and properties in the most affected areas. While early application is recommended, it does not ensure funding acquisition.

Originally initiated on December 12, 2023, the LARRP aims to offer significant financial assistance to landlords affected by the economic downturn due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Managed under the guidance of the LA County Board of Supervisors, the program is set to distribute over $68 million in aid, supporting landlords with up to $30,000 per qualifying rental unit for back rent and certain eligible expenses since April 1, 2022.

Rafael Carbajal, DCBA Director, emphasized the county’s dedication to supporting landlords and tenants through this initiative, highlighting its role in maintaining stable housing options within the community.

“Launching the second round of the LA County Rent Relief Program underscores the County’s commitment to landlords and tenants, allowing us to help support the availability of stable housing options within our community,” said Carbajal.
