The playgrounds and other features at Laurel Grove Park in a Valley Glen/North Hollywood neighborhood alongside the 170 Freeway were put in place more than 20 years ago and are in need of a major update. And in recent months, some residents in the community have cited their concerns over homeless encampments and RV-related fires.
With funds secured by City Council President Krekorian and help from the city’s Recreation and Parks Department and the Laurel Grove community, a major makeover is coming that residents hope will help. Among the new features: a long hoped-for butterfly garden.
The play area will be replaced with new playground equipment and a safety surface. The park will get new landscaping and lots of new “furnishings” including new trash containers, benches and tables. And a “hydration station” for the workout crowd — and thirsty dogs. In addition, the park’s public paths will get a safety update, including security lighting and cameras.
