Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters this week launched their annual “Fill the Boot” fundraiser, seeking donations from motorists at street intersections across Los Angeles to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Firefighters found a willing and enthusiastic audience of motorists on Thursday, April 27, who pulled over to give in Woodland Hills, in a parking lot near the corner of Topanga and Victory boulevards.
If you missed your chance, LAFD is still accepting donations at “Fill the Boot” locations in the San Fernando Valley and citywide, on Friday, April 28 from 8 a.m. to noon. In addition to the Woodland Hills site, you can donate from the comfort of your car at 14 spots citywide, including Valley locations at Sepulveda Boulevard and Nordhoff Street in Sunland; 4360 Tujunga Avenue in Studio City; and Balboa Boulevard and Devonshire Street in Granada Hills.
“The United Firefighters of Los Angeles Local 112 has collected critical funds in the community since 1954 — one dollar at a time — as part of the Fill the Boot program for the Muscular Dystrophy Association,” LAFD Capt. Erik Scott said.
According to officials, the longstanding partnership has raised more than $679 million and has involved more than 300,000 firefighters across the U.S. The funds have led in part to more than a dozen FDA-approved drugs for those with neuromuscular disease.
