Reggie Bush Takes Legal Action Against USC and NCAA

      His Heisman Trophy was returned in in April but former USC star Reggie Bush is not done with USC. Lawyers for Bush maintain that USC, NCAA and Pac-12 benefited financially from his reputation without proper acknowledgment and are now suing to recoup monies made off of his name, image and likeness during his years as a football player the university from 2003 to 2005. Attorneys for the 39-year-old former running back contend that his case is about justice for all college athletes.

      This case is not just about seeking justice for Reggie Bush; it’s about setting a precedent for the fair treatment of all college athletes,” Evan Selik of McCathern Law said in a statement. “Our goal is to rectify this injustice and pave the way for a system where athletes are rightfully recognized, compensated and treated fairly for their contributions.”

T.I. and Tiny’s $71 Million Court Victory

T.I. and Tiny Harris won a lawsuit against MGA Entertainment, securing $71 million for the infringement of their teen pop group, OMG Girlz’s, intellectual property rights. A jury found that MGA’s “L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls” copied the group’s image and likeness. The case, which began in 2020, involved allegations of MGA promoting dolls resembling the OMG Girlz, including Tiny’s daughter, Zonnique Pullins. Tiny expressed gratitude for the victory, calling it a win for “the city” and “the culture.” OMG Girlz and their lawyer thanked their legal team and jurors, emphasizing the importance of protecting artists’ intellectual property.

Sen. Laphonza Butler Helps Secure Nomination of Central California Federal Judge Michelle Williams Court

      U.S. Sen. Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.) helped to secure the nomination of Judge Michelle Williams Court as Judge for the Central District of California. With the 49-44 vote, Court became the third Black woman and fifth in the court’s history to serve as an Article III Judge in the state’s Central District.

      Since 2012, Court served as a supervising judge for the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County. She has also led and contributed to several projects at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and the American Civil Liberties Union in Southern California.
