Monterey Park Mayor Henry Lo cut the ribbon to launch the Lunar New Year festival at the Boys & Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley on Thursday evening, Jan. 26, an event that included the latest memorial to the victims of Saturday’s deadly Star Dance Studio attack.

Thursday’s event — which featured a memorial to the 11 people killed at the Monterey Park dance hall — advanced with the goal of promoting healing and helping to bring the mourning community together.

Prayers, vigils, memorials and candlelight services has filled the week in the heartbroken community in the shadow of the mass shooting, which largely remains a mystery as law enforcement continued its sprawling investigation.
