Pizza City Fest Los Angeles will make its debut at L.A. Live

Pizza lovers can grab a slice of heaven at the inaugural Pizza City Fest Los Angeles.

The two-day event will take place at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles April 29-30. It will include dozens of Southern California food vendors selling all styles of pizza including thin New York slices, thick and rectangular Detroit-style offerings and Chicago-style deep dish pie.

This festival is as much about eating as it is about education since it will also include several panel discussions where experts will discuss things like what exactly an L.A.-style pizza is and even offer tips on how to make the perfect pizza at home.

Created by James Beard Award-winning food writer and podcaster Steve Dolinsky, who has written two books about pizza, the festival made its debut in Chicago last year.

“I’ve seen the L.A. pizza scene explode recently, having visited about 60 places while researching over the past year,” Dolinsky said in a press release.

“But with so much great pizza spread out from Santa Barbara to San Diego, there needed to be a way to highlight these artisans all in one place. Not only will we do that, but we’ll also bring together some of the most talented local pizza pros to share their knowledge and expertise with home cooks,” the statement continued.

Some of the local pizza shops participating in the festival include Boyle Heights’ Brooklyn Ave. Pizza Co., which makes traditional pizzas, as well as original creations such as mole pizza with Oaxacan queso.

Also on the lineup is well-known pan-style pizza restaurant Quarter Sheets Pizza from Echo Park and Long Beach’s Little Coyote, which focuses on hand-stretched, thin crust, foldable New York-style pies.
