Popular Japanese market Mitsuwa opens doors in Northridge soon

Popular Japanese grocery chain Mitsuwa Marketplace will open a new store on Jan. 21 in Northridge.

The store will open at 8940 Tampa Avenue at the Walnut Grove Shopping Center, a few miles away from the California State University, Northridge campus, according to the company’s press release.

“We are very excited to open our store in the Northridge neighborhood,” said Takeshi Izuma, president and CEO of Mitsuwa Corporation, in a statement. “We are so excited to join this community and offer our new neighbors a taste of Japan.”

The largest Japanese grocery store chain in the U.S., which has 11 locations across the nation, it is known for offering Japanese skincare, makeup, instant ramen, plum wine and frozen gyoza. The company, founded in 1998,  has locations in four other states along with Southern California locations in the San Gabriel Valley, Mar Vista and Torrance.

Unlike stores in Torrance and Mar Vista, the Northridge location doesn’t include a food court, according to the company’s spokeswoman.

The grand opening is set for Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. and will feature Japanese Taiko Drum performers.
