So Cal Council Of Delta Sigma Theta Celebrates Founders Day

The Southern California Coordinating Council (SCCC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will observe this year’s Founders Day with a weekend of events, January 27-29 at the Hyatt Regency LAX, 6225 West Century Blvd, Los Angeles 90045. Southern California alumni and collegiate sorority chapters will convene to celebrate 110 years of commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action.

This year’s Founders Day weekend offers several opportunities for the public to join in the festivities. Friday, January 27 at 5 p.m. will commence with a public meeting where sorority and community leadership will convene to open the weekends’ celebration. Immediately following the public meeting, the Inglewood Alumnae Chapter will host The Red Renaissance welcome event, where guests are invited to dress in Harlem Renaissance 20’s style. Saturday evening, January 28 at 8 p.m., will be the Fete en Rouge (Party in Red) gala. After five attire is requested. Sunday, January 29, culminates with an ecumenical service at 9 a.m. with guest speaker, Reverend Matumaini Taylor, youth pastor, Faithful Central Bible Church. All events are free to the public

“The member chapters of the Southern California Coordinating Council are excited to include the public in our Founders Day celebration weekend. It affirms our dedication to the partnerships we have and those we hope to foster in the future with the community. These partnerships are the cornerstone of impactful service in underserved communities of color which is what our Founders envisioned us to do 110 years ago,” said Pixie Boyden, Southern California State Coordinator.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its founding, more than 300,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college-educated women. The sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, the Arabian Gulf, Southern Africa and West Africa.

“Founders Day is very special to our sorority, 22 amazing ladies had the vision to establish an organization that exemplifies the beauty of sisterhood and service,” said Cheryl Gully, president, Inglewood Alumnae Chapter. She continued, “We are excited to bring our family, friends and community safely together to celebrate a weekend of fun, fellowship and reflection.”

COVID-19 guidelines will be adhered to at all events and guests are encouraged to take necessary cautions by staying home if feeling sick and recommended to wear masks.
