Veterans Day at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills – In-person and Online: The 63nd annual celebration honors United States military veterans with a ceremony that includes a flyover by the Condor Squadron; invocation and benediction by the Rev. Msgr. Frank Hicks, from St. Basil Roman Catholic Church in Los Angeles; music by the Los Angeles Police Concert Band and the John Broadous Chorale; a reading of the Veterans Day presidential proclamation by Alan Hamilton, from the Los Angeles Police Department; a color guard gun salute by the Los Angeles Police Department; and remarks by Los Angeles City Controller Ron Galperin, 11 a.m. Nov. 11. Veterans Day Ceremony in Newhall: The City of Santa Clarita co-hosts the event that honors veterans and includes Veterans Day remarks by local veterans and patriotic music, 11 a.m. Nov. 11. Master of Ceremonies is veteran Christopher Werthe. San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade: Only veterans ride in the parade that begins, 11:11 a.m. Nov. 11. Grand marshal: United States Army Master Sgt. Charles Green, who served from 1976-2002 and is currently the site manager for the Sepulveda VA Ambulatory Care Center. The parade is dedicated to the late Alfred Anthony Flores Jr. who urged his father Fred Flores to found a Veterans Day parade in the San Fernando Valley. Downtown Burbank Winter Wine Walk and Street Fair: The holidays kick-off begins with the street fair, noon Nov. 12. The fair is free to attend and runs through 8 p.m. Schedule includes live musical performances and a “magical snowfall” at the main stage (San Fernando Boulevard at Palm Avenue. Saugus High School Marching Centurions: The school’s band and color guard have been invited to participate in the 2023 Memorial Day parade in Washington D.C. and are currently fundraising for the trip.

The group has created a podcast, launched first on Sept. 15, with a new episode to be released every two weeks thereafter until Thanksgiving. The podcast will include students reflections on what the group has experienced during the past number of years (wildfires, school shooting, Covid-19 pandemic and remote learning and the return to competitions) and how they got to be invited to perform in the parade. Each download of the podcast supports the group and raises funds so they can march in the parade.
