Tournament of Roses Royal Court volunteers on Habitat for Humanity project

The Tournament of Roses Royal Court continued being ambassadors this week, volunteering to help paint Habitat for Humanity homes in the San Gabriel Valley, where two families are set to move in.

The homes under construction are on a corner in Pasadena that is being transformed by the Habitat project, and officials say the homes will provide shelter for their families in an era of surging rents and housing costs that are pricing out many.

The homes are part of SGV Habitat Expanding the American Dream Campaign, a $28 million investment in the community that will provide critical home repair and homeownership to 100 families across the San Gabriel Valley and abroad. This numbers adds to the over 300 families already served by SGV Habitat for Humanity since 1990, officials said.

The seven members of Royal Court — Queen Bella Ballard, Salia Baligh, Sahanna Rajinikanthan, Zoë Denoncourt, Michelle Cortez-Peralta, Uma Wittenberg and Adrian Crick — spent Saturday, Nov. 12, helping to ready the homes for their owners. In the process, the teens were fulfilling their role as Tournament of Roses ambassadors.

The Royal Court attends nearly 100 community and media functions, serving as ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses, the Pasadena community, and the greater Los Angeles area. Their efforts will culminate in an appearance during the Rose Parade, themed “Turning a Corner.”
