PASADENA — UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet continued to run all over Pac-12 defenses on Saturday, recording 115 yards at halftime against Stanford to help UCLA stake out a 24-6 lead.

Charbonnet recorded his sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season. He was coming off a 151-yard performance against Oregon last week.

Stanford entered the game allowing 187.6 rushing yards per game, which was 10th in the Pac-12 — and UCLA took full advantage of it during the first half.

On UCLA’s opening drive, Charbonnet had the first three touches and recorded first down runs on each of them. On its second drive, Charbonnet ran 23 yards untouched for a score following an interception by Darius Mausau.

He added a 1-yard touchdown run to put UCLA ahead by three scores late in the first half, then broke the 100-yard mark on a 16-yard scamper late in the second quarter.

“Some NFL team is going to get one helluva running back in Zach Charbonnet,” former UCLA star quarterback Troy Aikman said in a tweet.

UCLA entered the game 11-1 when Charbonnet ran for 100 yards or more.

Charbonnet came into Saturday second in the nation in yards per carry, and leading the Pac-12 in all-purpose yards per game at 156.17.

DTR passes Rosen

UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson moved past Josh Rosen for third all-time in passing yards in school history on Saturday against Stanford.

Thompson-Robinson, who entered the game 29 passing yards shy of Rosen, had 151 yards in the air at halftime. He surpassed Rosen with a 25-yard completion to Zach Charbonnet on UCLA’s first drive.

Rosen, who started for UCLA from 2015 to 2017, had 9,341 passing yards in his collegiate career.

Next up on the list is Brett Hundley (2011 to 2014), who had 9,966 passing yards. Cade McNown (1995-1998) is the all-time leader with 10,708 yards.

Thompson-Robinson passed Hundley for most touchdown passes in UCLA history against Utah on Oct. 8.

McGovern misses game

Defensive coordinator Bill McGovern was not at the game on Saturday due to illness, with defensive analyst Clancy Pendergast taking McGovern’s place in the booth. A UCLA spokesperson said the defensive play-calling was a “collaborative effort.”

McGovern is in his first season as defensive coordinator.

Defensive effort

UCLA’s defense gave up just two field goals in the first half and fewer than 100 yards of total offense. Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee entered the game without a touchdown pass in the last two games.

It was a welcome sight for the Bruins, who allowed a season-high 545 yards of total offense at Oregon — which had a balanced attack of 283 passing yards and 262 rushing yards.

Turning 100

The Rose Bowl, which opened on Oct. 28, 1922, celebrated its centennial on Friday. To mark the occasion, other venues around Southern California lit up in gold — including the Coliseum, SoFi Stadium and LAX.
