VOTE: Southern California Girls Athlete of the Week, January 27

Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.

Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.

Click on the newspaper links below the athlete’s name to read about their performance from last week, and then vote for who you think deserves the top honor.

Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Voting ends at midnight, but final totals aren’t always immediately reflected due to processing.

Noelani Raigans, San Pedro: Raigans led the Pirates to a pair of Marine League wins last week. She scored 28 points in a 63-34 win over Gardena and 23 points in a 62-38 win over Carson. She is averaging 17.7 points per game this season.

Kaiya Mack, Esperanza: The guard averaged 29 points to rally the Aztecs to victories against Brea Olinda and El Dorado in the Crestview League. Mack scored 25 points in a 52-38 victory at Brea Olinda and scored 28 of her 33 points in the second half of a 54-48 victory at El Dorado.

Erika Liang, Diamond Bar: The sophomore point guard is one of the main reasons for the team’s turnaround season. Liang scored a game-high 17 points with three steals in a a 49-47 victory over Walnut that improved her team to 16-3 overall and 6-0 in the Hacienda League. She is averaging nearly 20 points per game. The Brahmas, who were 12-16 a year ago, are ranked No. 4 in CIF-SS Division 3A.

Addison Ellis, Orange Vista: Ellis claimed the 131-pound individual title at last week’s Ayala Women’s Wrestling Invitational. She recorded three victories via pinfall and was leading 3-0 in the championship match when her opponent was forced to retire because of an injury. Ellis has a 33-2 record this season and also won titles at tournaments hosted by Santa Ana, Norco, Redlands East Valley and Ontario. Last season, she became the first wrestler in school history to capture a CIF Southern Section individual championship.

MacKenly Randolph, Sierra Canyon: The junior forward pulled down a school-record 29 rebounds in addition to her 27 points in the Trailblazers’ 65-51 win over Chula Vista’s Bonita Vista. She tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 68-36 win over Utah’s Fremont High, then racked up 26 points and seven rebounds in a 64-56 win over Utah’s Lone Peak as Sierra Canyon remained unbeaten this season at 6-0.

Athziri Guizar, Long Beach Poly: Guizar, a team captain on Poly’s girls wrestling team, helped lead the Jackrabbits to a 46-36 win versus Millikan on Thursday, Jan. 19. The senior’s win in the 106-pound weight class, forced a three-way tie for the Moore League title between Poly, Millikan and Wilson. The Moore League girls wrestling finals are Thursday at Wison.
