DAILY NEWS TOP 15

1. Chaminade (8-0): Eagles coach David Machuca solidified himself as the lead candidate to be the Daily News Coach of the Year with the team’s 36-29 win at Bishop Amat, which marked the program’s first-ever win in La Puente.

2. West Ranch (8-0): The Wildcats are en route to their first-ever Foothill League title. There are rumblings about a statue of QB Ryan Staub being built on campus …

Last week: No. 2 | This week: vs. Castaic, at Valencia High, Friday

3. Oaks Christian (6-2): The Lions beats Westlake 52-7 to stay unbeaten in the Marmonte League. All roads are looking toward an eventual Week 10 winner-takes-all league title matchup against St. Bonaventure, but Oaks has to take care of wounded Simi Valley first.

Last week: No. 3 | This week: at Simi Valley, Friday

4. Sierra Canyon (4-4): Give credit to the Trailblazers. After losing a heartbreaker in double overtime to Bishop Amat two weeks ago, the team has won two Mission League games in a row, including last week’s road win over Serra. Now, it has a chance to win the league at Chaminade this Friday night.

5. Thousand Oaks (8-0): The Lancers clinched at least a share of the Canyon League title with its 24-17 win over Moorpark. It’s the program’s first league title victory in 21 years and keeps the team’s undefeated season alive. The last time that happened was in 1989.

Last week: No. 5 | This week: at Agoura, Friday

6. Newbury Park (7-1): The Panthers are coming off a bye week and have to more games let in the regular season.

Last week: No. 6 | This week: vs. Oak Park, Friday

7. Saugus (6-2): The Centurions took care of business against Castaic, downing the new-Foothill League members 33-14.

Last week: No. 7 | This week: at Canyon, Friday

8. Highland (7-1): It’s the same old story with the Bulldogs. They beat Lancaster 63-0 and are likely to win its third straight Golden League title and fourth in five seasons.

Last week: No. 9 | This week: vs. Palmdale, Friday

9. St. Francis (6-2): The Golden Knights are finding their mojo. Jack Jacobs threw for four touchdowns in the team’s big win over winless Crespi. St. Francis is still unbeaten in the Angelus League, along with Loyola.

Last week: No. 9 | This week: vs. St. Paul, Friday

10. Valencia (4-4): The Vikings are coming off a bye and will play against Hart at College of the Canyons Friday.

Last week: No. 12 | This week: vs. Hart, at College of the Canyons, Friday

11. Notre Dame (4-4): All of a sudden, the Knights are 2-1 (forfeit win over Serra) in the Mission League and improving. Sophomore QB Wyatt Becker threw two touchdowns in a 22-14 win at Alemany.

Last week: Unranked | This week: at Bishop Amat, Friday

12. Calabasas (5-3): The Coyotes had an opportunity and squandered it with a 48-21 loss to Bishop Diego in its Marmonte League home opener. It was a chance to move to 2-1, but now they’ll face league-unbeaten St. Bonaventure.

Last week: No. 10 | This week: vs. St. Bonaventure, Friday

13. Golden Valley (6-3): The Grizzlies were throttled by West Ranch 35-7, but now enter a bye week with a puncher’s chance against Saugus in a season finale.

Last week: No. 12 | This week: Bye

14. Simi Valley (4-4): The Pioneers have been plagued by injuries. Key playmakers Carson Mott (DE), Sean Brown (DB) and Solemn Lincoln (ATH) are done for the season. Simi Valley has lost four out of its last five games, and now play Oaks Christian.

15. Birmingham Charter (4-4): The Patriots are the first City Section school that has made its way into the Daily News rankings. Once again, the Patriots are Open Division contenders, and are 3-0 in the West Valley League
